Today marks the 57th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s White House memorandum authorizing the green beret as the official headgear for U.S. Army Special Forces. In honor of President Kennedy's support for the Special Forces Regiment and its mission, the Regiment pays its respects by placing a wreath at President Kennedy's graveside at Arlington National Cemetery every October around the anniversary of the meeting between President Kennedy and then-Lt. Gen. William P. Yarborough at Fort Bragg, NC.
